text Environment in crisis: 'We are past the point of no return' by UK Independent (reposted)
Thirty years ago, the scientist James Lovelock worked out that the Earth possessed a planetary-scale control system which kept the environment fit for life. He called it Gaia, and the theory has become widely accepted. Now, he believes mankind's abuse of the environment is making that mechanism work against us. His astonishing conclusion - that climate change is already insoluble, and life on Earth will never be the same again....

by BFC Repost
On Friday(01/06/06) in Gardiner, the National Park Service (NPS) was busy harassing wild buffalo, protecting livestock interests instead of the flora and fauna they are mandated by the American people to protect. Park Rangers came out on horseback, dressed in cowboy finery, just miles from the hunt zone, and forced wild buffalo off of their winter range. Two groups were hazed into the Park and then the rangers picked up another large group that had never even left the Park's boundaries....

textFILM: Affluenza – An unsustainable addiction to economic growth by World Centric
Sept. 20, 7:30 p.m. Americans, who make up only five percent of the world's population, use nearly a third of its resources and produce almost half of its hazardous waste. Add overwork, personal stress, the erosion of family and community, skyrocketing debt, and the growing gap between rich and poor, and it's easy to understand why some people say that the American Dream is no bargain. Many are opting out of the consumer chase, redefining the Dream, and making "voluntary simplicity&quot...

The Nisshin Maru whaling factory ship has stopped and the hunters are out hunting in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary. Once again Greenpeace activists have put their inflatable zodiacs into the water to try and form a human shield between harpoon and whale. Tensions are higher after the collision of the Nisshin Maru and Arctic Sunrise.
