Caravan for Justice on Thursday for Oscar Grant and more
There will be caravan of cars and buses this Thursday, February 19, to lobby legislators in Sacramento on the issues of Oscar Grant and police killings (revising the "Police Bill of Rights" that shields their misconduct records from the public), repressive gang laws, reforming Three Strikes, and the San Francisco 8, former Black Panthers and associates being retried by Attorney General Jerry Brown for a 1971 police killing based on evidence extracted by torture in 1973....

E. Palo Alto Landlord Hits Rock Bottom with Extreme Tactics
Could it get any worse than this? Page Mill Properties has hired an active police officer to work for them in his off-duty hours. He is easily recognized by tenants as both a body guard for the company and an intimidator of tenants, yet his full time job is as a lieutenant in the Palo Alto Police Dept. Page Mill also sent an employee on more than one occasion to tear down "tenants' rights" flyers from the East Palo Alto neighborhood where the overbearing landlord owns apartment complexes.....

Palo Alto Police Officer On Payroll of Harassing Landlord
Former police chief Lynne Johnson, who retired in December amidst allegations of racial profiling, authorized an officer to do contract work for Page Mill Properties early in 2008 despite a department policy that regulates off-duty employment to avoid conflict of interest. The officer went to the apartment of an outspoken advocate of tenant rights, loitered near his residence, and photographed the tenant and his car.

Mega-Landlord Offers Tenant Activist $20,000, then Twists Bribe into Extortion Charge
Last November East Palo Alto's biggest landlord tried to bribe community organizer Christopher Lund with a large sum of money to make him cease his efforts on behalf of renters in low-income East Palo Alto. MLK Jr Day in Palo Alto
High school students invited to speak in the Palo Alto City Council Chamber said they hoped for freedom from police brutality, amongst other things, and a Raging Granny wore a "Oscar Grant is my Son" sign on her chest. The ceremony recognized community volunteers and remembered Martin Luther King, Jr. for his message of hope....

On our second visit to protest Facebook's discrimination against breastfeeding moms, we were greeted by many Facebook employees who wanted to pose with us for photos. They encouraged us to get a Facebook page...we tried to explain to them that we won't play into the hands of corporations... that drew some blank looks, so we sang them our song about Riseup.net....

The Alameda County district attorney said it would take two weeks to complete an investigation into the shooting death of Oscar Grant by a BART cop. But it took police in East Palo Alto only 24 hours to make an arrest in an accidental shooting that happened there. What's up with that?...

San Mateo Protest Draws Disparate Demonstrators
This morning the call went out from San Mateo Peace Action for an emergency rally to stop Israeli bombing of Gaza. Mothers Breastfeed and Protest at Facebook's HQ in Palo Alto
M.I.L.C. (Mothers International Lactation Campaign) reports that recently, Facebook has started 'pulling a myspace' by not allowing people to post profile pictures of babies nursing. The pictures have been reported as 'obscene' and have been removed- their posters warned not to repost or fear being kicked off of Facebook.
