On Wednesday, Oct. 19, a 16-year-old boy was arrested in the brutal slaying of Pamela Vitale, a prominent defense attorney's wife who lived quietly in the San Francisco suburb of Layfayette, Calif. The boy's name and photo were soon published throughout Bay Area media when he was taken in for questioning later that day -- something that rarely happens to juveniles taken into custody, even in cases as severe as this one. Berkeley Freeway Overpass Vigil to Mark 102,000 Killed in Iraq
60 people gathered on the University Ave pedestrian walkway this evening to mark the 2,000th US troop fatality in Iraq, and the over 100,000 Iraqis killed because of our government's unjust and illegal war on Iraq. Folks held candles, played drums as part of the nationwide vigils held across the country....

Anti-war activists held a 40-foot "Not in Our Name, Out of Iraq Now" banner on the University Ave pedestrian walkway spanning I-80 before sunrise this morning. As part of a nationwide day of action to commemorate the 2,000th US fatality in Iraq, folks will return to the overpass this evening (Wednesday, October 26) at 5:30 pm.
