On July 2002, Governor Gray Davis signed Assembly Bill 1749 (AB1749) into state law, observing every third Saturday in June as Juneteenth National Freedom Day for the State of California. This bill was amended in 2003, and is now recorded in legislation under Senate Bill 812 (SB812).
