From all the applicants, we have selected 40 artists to participate in the paintout. They paint inside Alameda City limits for 5 days, Monday through Friday. They come from all parts of California, and the US. to paint Alameda’s Victorian and California Bungalow homes, Historic business districts, tree lined streets, parks, beaches, marinas, San Francisco skyline, and the port and hills of Oakland.

Wednesday, August 2 is our Quick Draw Competition. At the Frank Bette Plein Air Paintout the painting time is 2/1/2 hours to create works, and afterwards the paintings are offered for sale in the back yard at FBCA.

This year, for the quick Draw Completion, the artists will paint on Grand Street from the Bay to the Estuary, and two blocks either side of Grand Street including Franklin Park. The Artists pick the best painting of the day and the winning artist is awarded the “Artist’s Choice Award” at the award ceremony on Saturday.

Saturday, August 5 from 10am-6pm South Shore Center, Park Street at Otis Drive, Alameda. Exhibit and sale of all the paintings completed during the week.

There are several awards, which include cash prizes, given to the artists selected by a juror. This year it is Carolyn Lord, renowned watercolor artist from Livermore.
