SAN FRANCISCO-- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced new plans to reduce methane emissions today. The action aims to reduce methane pollution from existing oil and gas wells across the United States.

Kassie Siegel, Director of the Climate Law Institute at Center for Biological Diversity and member of Californians Against Fracking, issued the following statement:

“We know what methane pollution does because we see the disastrous consequences first-hand here in California. The Aliso Canyon catastrophe caused massive evacuations and health hazards, and thousands of other leaks from oil and gas wells undermine the fight against climate change. The EPA’s action is too little too late, and our communities and environment will only be safe from methane pollution when dangerous and dirty oil and gas extraction is stopped.”

Californians Against Fracking is a coalition of about 200 environmental business, health, agriculture, labor, political and environmental justice organizations working to win a statewide ban on fracking and other dangerous extraction techniques in California. Follow @CAagainstFrack on Twitter.
