No DAPL Call for Support! Help Luta today!

by via SSPRIT
September 19, 2016 - Wichapiluta Candaleria or Luta, Rumsen Ohlone & Mescalero Apache, activist, musical artist, and current Vice-Chair of Sacred Sites Protection and Rights of Indigenous Tribes (SSPRIT), has defended several Sacred Sites in the Bay Area known as Ohlone Shellmounds. Luta was recently targeted by police while he was offering his support at the Standing Rock encampment/NO DAPL. Luta was singled out as he was standing in a group leading a spiritual song. Luta was arrested and charged with a misdemeanor. He is currently back in his ancestral territory, also known as ‘The Bay Area’ to assist with Indigenous-led efforts; protecting waterways and sacred areas. Luta has been ordered to go back to Standing Rock North Dakota for court on September 20, 2016. Please donate here: https://www.gofundme.com/2pqg8nv8

Founding SSPRIT CEO, Norman Wounded Knee DeOcampo and Luta left the Bay Area yesterday and are heading to the Sacred Stone Camp at Standing Rock in North Dakota to stand in solidarity with the Standing Rock Sioux/Sacred Stone Spirit Camp. "It’s important as California Indians, who are also defending our water and sacred sites; that we stand in Solidarity with our Relatives at Standing Rock. I support Luta’s direct action," stated Wounded Knee. Luta took direct action against the Dakota Access Pipeline by offering songs of prayer on August 31, 2016. He is one of eight Protectors that were arrested. Luta works very closely with Corrina Gould, Karkin-Chochenyo Ohlone Woman of Indian People Organizing for Change/Sogorea Te Land Trust. (sogoreate-landtrust.com) Luta often speaks publicly and offers songs of prayer at Ohlone led events. The Ohlone People are currently supporting the Winnemem Wintu's - Run4Salmon, a two week event to bring the Salmon Home, in which Luta participated during the opening ceremony on Saturday, September 17, 2016. Dixie Pauline, Bay Area Community Activist and SSPRIT Family & Friend, created an initial Call to Action for Luta which states, “Attention Friends in the Bay Area/Ohlone Territory; Any financial support that you can give helps! After talking with Luta and finding out about his situation, I asked if I could make this post. Due to support that is really needed for Standing Rock/NO DAPL and the Winnemem Wintu’s Salmon Run, I know he certainly wasn't going to ask. So, I am putting out this call with his blessing.”

Your generous donation is appreciated and will help Luta with costs associated with travel & being away from his ancestral homeland. (Including Gas/Toll since he is driving to and from Standing Rock, Lodging if needed while in route, food, and personal items)

Thank you for standing in solidarity with Luta & The Ohlone Peoples!
