Conversations in Color, an intimate discussion on Black Feminism, Sexuality, Intersectionality, Emergent Strategy and Afrofuturism featuring Alexis De Veaux, 2015 Lambda Literary Best Lesbian Fiction award winner, and Janet Mock, Trans-advocate and MSNBC So Popular Talk Show Host.
The Amistad Research Center presents "Conversations in Color"

This inaugural event featured Trans-advocate and MSNBC So Popular Talk Show Host Janet Mock on stage for an intimate discussion about sexuality and identity in literature with Alexis De Veaux, 2015 Lambda Literary Best Lesbian Fiction award winner.

In Part I Mock and De Vaux explore one another's writing, memoir, and influences, describing their work in relationship to Black Feminism, Intersectionality, Emergent Strategy and Afrofuturism. Part II sheds light on current events: Beyonce's new song release, "Formation," and Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton's off-key attempts to garner Black and POC votes.

Amistad is a highly valued independent archive that offers this free cultural series to spotlight artists, educators, and the community in talks about their work and impact on social change. It serves as a community resource for these needs, having been created during the height of the Civil Rights Movement and Black Arts Movement. Conversations in Color allows us to highlight the abundant histories of diverse communities while providing scholarly programs to advance public discourse.
