Over the July 4th traffic on Interstate 80, “torture victims and detainees” staged a bold banner display on the University Avenue overpass.World Can’t Wait has been up on this overpass action every July 4th since 2006. This year the focus on the torture state forged under Bush – and now being continued and refined by Obama – was a sharp challenge to the thousands who passed our display.

All afternoon, as drivers slowed to read the banners, endless honks and waves of support greeted the anti-torture message. At times, a remarkable 30-40% of cars were honking loudly

This city statue honoring the legacy of radical politics and protest in Berkeley’s history stands at the foot of the overpass. These protesters of today decided to update the statue’s message.

My family fought in the anti-fascist war to end the practice of torture. Torture is a war crime now and is stipulated as such in international law in the Geneva Conventions of war (1949) It is great to see you on the internet and doing a politically correct demonstration. The world needs to put an end to the present practice of the U.S. Military which is doing these three war crimes throughout the middle east area that it has illegally invaded and occupied, 1) targeting and killing civilians, 2) torturing and killing prisoners of war, 3) collectived punishment such as bombing to rubble villages, towns, and cities throughout the erswhile Holyland now designated as the middle-east.

Further it is written down in the Nuremburg Trials (1945) chaired by U.S. Judge Jackson, that the planning and doing of agressive war is the supreme international crime on the planet earth as it actuates all other crimes high, low, big and small. That means the U.S. Imperialists are commiting the supreme international crime on earth throughout the middle east the erstwhile Holyland of the world.

Further your demonstration is holding up international law and the U.S. Constitution which says that international treaties signed on to by the U.S.A. are to be treated as the supreme laws of the land. The world thanks you for taking the anti-fascist side and showing resistence to the war criminals running these agressive, illegal wars and occupations.

Forward with the U.S. Constitution could be quite desisive at this time, especially with the section that says, if the government no longer serves the needs of the people, it is the duty of the people to impeach (reform) or abolish it and replace it with one that does serve the needs of the people. Such clarity of action would show the whole world that government for, of, and by the peoples shall not perish from the earth. Great move , great demonstration. Thanks.
