Unseen Gaza
Is what has been presented on our screens and in our papers a true reflection of events on the ground in Gaza? And how do these reports differ to those aired in other countries? [48 mins video]
With reporters unable to enter Gaza, attempted media manipulation from both sides and strict regulations governing what images that can be shown on British TV, Jon Snow asks a range of journalists from at home and abroad about the challenges of getting the full story.
Featuring images that haven't before been aired on mainstream television, Jon also examines the difference between the coverage at home and that in the US, Europe and the Middle East. He compares the coverage available on terrestrial channels with satellite TV and the internet and investigates the extent to which some British Muslims are by-passing the mainstream British media and looking elsewhere for their information.
To what extent does the choice of news outlet affect opinion of the conflict?

They were so desperate to avoid seeing the truth. It was astonishing to blame the BBC for what they were seeing instead of the perpetrators for doing it!!In any case, as in all the coverage, whatever label ("terrorist") you attach to hamas now is irrelevant, as the subject is the suffering of the citizens who are clearly blameless. Snow showed how the propaganda machine worked, which ought to frighten us all.
The great thing is that this is the first action where the indy media has really come into its own to inform people of the "other side" [i.e. neither israel nor Hamas] and we can make up our own minds. For me this has opened my eyes to the way that the hangover of colonialism has shaped israel and is helped by cynical postcolonial nations who are prepared to let AND FUND the Israelis to do things that we already discredited and apologised for in our own history.
They massacred whole villages like Deir Yassin in order to get the Palestinians to leave their homes.
This is the reality that has been hidden.
This is not a thousands year old conflict but at most 80 years old since the British Balfour Declaration to Lord Rothschild promising Palestine to Zionists possibly in exchange for help getting the US involved in WWI on Britain's side.
People from around the world opposed South African neo-colonialism, racism and Apartheid without worrying about the sensitivities of the racists.
I understand Jews have suffered, but is it possible to finally oppose Israel's neo-colonialism, racism and Zionism without being accused of being a racist yourself?
