Los Angeles—Maligayang Pasko!
Scores of Filipino World War II Veterans with the Justice for Filipino American Veterans (JFAV) marched along the busy Temple Street sidewalks together with more than a hundred seniors, young students and residents from the Manila Terrace Apartments to Search to Involve The Pilipino Americans (SIPA) compound with lighted lanterns or ” Parols “last Friday, December 19.
The4th Annual Parol parade started at around 5:15 PM Students and parents from Burlington School, Pilipino American Democrats of Los Angeles(PALAD), GEPENC, JFAV, People’s CORE, PANA, TWNDC and SIPA marched up Temple St through the sidewalks.
Called the 4th Annual Holiday Parol Parade, it began as a project of The Historic Filipinotown neighborhood Council (HiFi NC), Temple Westlake Neighborhood Development Corporation (TWNDC) and PANA four years ago. It became a holiday fixture ever since.

The JFAV contingent was led by SGS Commander Jack Vergara and Victor Velasco; AWARE leaders Pedro Morante and Arturo P. Garcia of People’s CORE. Were also present. The veterans and seniors held lanterns of different shapes and sizes and sung Christmas carols.
Awaiting them were JFAV Steering Committee members Ernest Tamayo and Mike Nailat at SIPA who distributed “holiday bags” from the JFAV food drive to the veterans and their spouses. The gift were bagged by SIPA and JFAV volunteers.
The more than 30 veterans and their spouses all assembled inside the SIPA Community hall for dinner and a Christmas Program. More than 300 people filled the hall.
Meanwhile, the JFAV-San Francisco held their Christmas program with a potluck lunch at the Wolff’s House in downtown San Francisco last Dec. 14. More than 60 veterans and widows attended the Christmas party.
There was a Karate Exhibition by a daughter of a veteran, songs from a JFAV volunteer and group singing and games. There was also gift giving from JFAV San Francisco. The program ended before 6:00 PM
