by R. Robertson
Day 21 of Tracie and Val's sojourn that started in West Hollywood is today December 8. Find them on Main, John, or Abbott St. in Salinas!
Day 22, Tuesday December 9, will find the pair walking from Salinas to Watsonville.
Later this week their route is scheduled to take them from Watsonville to the Aptos area. After that they are headed through Santa Cruz and northward bound.
Their ultimate destination? The steps of the California Supreme Court in San Francisco to deliver their message: REVOKE PROP 8!

Today a couple intent on fighting Proposition 8 will walk through the historic town of Salinas, collecting signatures and stories from local residents. Later this week they will be in Santa Cruz, and next week they will be greeted at a rally in Palo Alto.

By December 19 Val and Tracie, life partners married in Canada, will take their message to the steps of the California Supreme Court.

The pair from Pasedena stand strong and refuse to accept a California where gay marriage can be made illegal. They say they will sustain their fight until the proposition is overturned and call their campaign *Revoke 8*.

To demonstrate their commitment to the cause, they are marching, sometimes as much as 20 miles a day, from West Hollywood to San Francisco and through the coastal cities in between. Along their journey they are gathering messages and signatures from people they meet in neighborhoods and on city streets. Tracie and Val will deliver all documents they gather on their sojourn to the California Supreme Court.

Although they've met folks that did not agree with their point of view, for the most part Californians have embraced their journey. "The amount of enthusiasm and support and encouragement -- it keeps us going each day,” they reported from Salinas where they were interviewed on the evening news.

They are communicating through their blog as each day rolls on, through blisters and blustering winds. One supporter drawn to their cause was Edna Esfeld, who said she knows what it is like to be treated as "second class citizen”. Edna joined their march on a long stretch of the Highway 101, along dirt roads and railroad tracks and provided her camper for all of them to use as shelter this past weekend.

You can meet Tracie and Val in Palo Alto when they make their way up the historic El Camino Real next week. The Raging Grannies, who have been organizing Overturn Prop 8 rallies in the Santa Clara valley, are planning a rally in their honor on December 15 or 16 (to be announced).

Tracie and Val soldier on. You can follow their blog at http://www.revoke8.com and join in greeting them in a town or city near you.

PHOTO: by D. Li: In November the Grannies organized a rally against Prop 8 in front of Mountain View City Hall.

The Raging Grannies will greet Val and Tracie when they arrive in Palo Alto on their way to the CA Supreme Court in San Francisco. Anticipated date: Dec 15 or 16.

Raging Granny rallies have been likened to street parties, with singalongs, skits, and speakers. In this photo a supporter of overturning Proposition 8 waves a flag. REVOKE 8: It's the American way!
