Good news for E. Palo Alto tenants

by Fight Against Greedy Landlord
The East Palo Alto Rent Stabilization Board held an Appeal Hearing on 27 August 2008, and ruled in favor of the tenants.
More good news: during the first week of September a judge denied Page Mill Properties' request to withhold evidence from East Palo Alto, which the city needs to legally challenge rent hikes.

The city of East Palo Alto has long contended that Page Mill Properties is acting outside of the city's ordinance by basing its rent increases on inaccurate rent certificates. Many of the rent certificates show higher amounts than the actual rents being paid in recent years. They should reflect a 3.2 percent maximum as required by East Palo Alto's Rent Stabilization Ordinance, a basis upon which the city of East Palo Alto was founded.
