Welcome to EarthVision International Environmental Film Festival!

Our competition and film festival grew out of the documentary work of partners Katherine Knight and Ed Schehl, and their production company, Raindancer Film & Video. The couple wanted to create a venue in which environmental filmmakers can get together and consider each other’s work and to screen films which inspire people to take action.

EarthVision and our participating filmmakers have enjoyed strong community support from more than 5,000 people who have attended the events and screenings. Last year we screened 33 films at the Del Mar and Vet’s Hall and hosted our Producer’s Gala at the Vet’s Hall. This year EarthVision will be screening at the Rio Theatre and will be adding educational workshops and forums along with our Producer’s Gala at the Vet’s Hall. The winning films (with permission) are run as programming on an average of sixteen hours per week on Community Television of Santa Cruz County throughout the year. This gives EarthVision films the possibility of reaching another 65,000 Community TV subscribers county wide throughout the year.

In addition to our already existing 9 film categories, we have added Act Locally, which is for films produced by community members or address issues with local impact in Santa Cruz County and Kid’s Power Hour, which is for films with a focus for children.

In March 2008 EarthVision will be celebrating our 10 - year anniversary. We are seeking films that instill concern for the issues they raise and instill enthusiasm for change in the audience. In addition we are considering screening the winners of Act Locally on the night of Earth Day 2008. Submission deadline is December 7th, 2007, but may be extended for Act Locally. For submission details please visit our website.

EarthVision is a nonprofit, community effort, locally organized and funded, using Community Television of Santa Cruz County as its fiscal sponsor.
