Panel Discussion to Promote Community Involvement in the Lives of Incarcerated Mothers

The Santa Cruz Chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is proud to sponsor Interrupted Life: Community Involvement In the Lives of Incarcerated Mothers, a compelling panel discussion about the heart-wrenching struggles women with children face in prison on Thursday, February 22, 7-9 pm at the Louden Nelson Center, 301 Center St., Santa Cruz.

Why are women being incarcerated at nearly double the rate of men? What happens to the children of women who are incarcerated? Why are lone mothers, very poor and ethnic minority women disportionately represented in women’s prison populations?

Local prison workers and activists will relay personal experiences, how those experiences relate to the organizations they represent, and specific calls to action about what we can all do to help solve this growing civil liberties problem in America.

Interrupted Life features speakers from the ACLU Drug Reform Project, All of Us Or None, the Community Action Board of Santa Cruz County, Critical Resistance, Friends Outside, Gemma, Justice Now, and Legal Services for Prisoners with Children. Moderated by Nancy Stoller from UCSC's Community Studies Department.
