Concerns about land use and the future of the Southern San Joaquin Valley bubbled to the surface at the first Tulare County Land Use Public Forum. The event was co-hosted by the local Farm Bureau, Building Industry Association, and Cooperative Extension Service on March 6, 2006 in Visalia. Over 200 locals, mostly from the agribusiness and land development communities, attended the half-day event.
The keynote address, “The Moment of Opportunity”, came from Carol Whiteside, founder and president of the Great Valley Center, who focused on how the South Valley might achieve economic, social, and environmental well-being. Visalia’s low-power community fm radio station KVLP-LP recorded her speech.
