NOW falsely accused of selling out the Prochoice movement by... (anti-choicer)?"
Just a typo? Or are Anti-choice trying to divide and conquer?
I was concerned this evening to read this little item on indybay:
"Planned Parenthood, NARAL and NOW sell out the movement
by me Wednesday, Mar. 01, 2006 at 3:15 PM"
http://www.indybay.org/news/2006/03/1805566.php
This article quoted a certain blog;
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jane-hamsher/naral-and-planned-parenth_b_16277.html
This is the title at that link:
"NARAL and Planned Parenthood Are Now the Enemies of Pro-Choice"
This blog concerns itself with the disappointing performance in the recent Alito confirmation of 2 major pro-choice orgs. ***This blog singled out N.O.W. as CONTINUING the fight for choice.*** N.O.W. continues to be unequivoclably in favor of a woman's right to choose for herself what her moral beliefs are in regards to the issue of abortion and to be treated as a human being worthy of that responsibility.
Read the blog. Then read the revisionist version from what may be an anti-choicer using indybay to spread disinformation and divide the prochoice side. There are definitely issues of commitment for both Planned Parenthood and NARAL, disappointing of course. Judge for yourself.
So- an indymedia "reporter" has included pro-choice stalwart N.O.W. in with the others. Why? Why do you think? Divide and conquer? NARAL and PP can be brought back into the fold. But we have to be careful of the source of this kind of information and confirm it with secondary sources. Perhaps the indybay author mis-spoke. One has to wonder.
The game is on. They know it, we should too. This is not an issue of which indymedia outlet is being used in this fashion. It could happen to any of them, and you can bet the other side will try to do just that.

there's no revisionism here...some one sent me an e-mail with that title and I didnt look at the title closely-I read the article and then posted. Mean clupa, mea maxa culpa. I was at work and didn't edit it.
This isnt to say I don't have my critique of NOW- they declined to participate at the state level in counter protesting the Walk for Life, citing the same tired "opposition to anti choicers gives them too much attention' which i think is a silly argument, but I have worked with East Bay NOW and I think theyre great .
Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. I know its been a rough week, but let's maintain our composure.
