The Democrats' "Grassroots Survey"

by Daniel Borgström (daniel41 [at] eudoramail.com)
Questions asked in the Democrats' opinion survey reflect their centrist politics and refusal to face issues such as the war in Iraq.
A few days ago the Democratic National Committee mailed me an opinion survey. At the top it says, "You have been selected to represent Oakland, CA in the 2005 Grassroots Survey…" (Wow! I represent Oakland!!!) There were several questions followed by the usual request for donations. Since I'm registered as a Green, I sort of wonder how I got on the DLC's mailing list. Anyway, I wrote them the following letter (which I'm also emailing to friends and posting on my blog):

--------------------------------------------------
November 11, 2005

DEAR DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL COMMITTEE:

You sent me your "Grassroots Survey.” It was a multiple choice questionnaire with insufficient options; within the framework offered, there was no way to express my real responses. Moreover, for the most part, you fail to ask the real questions -- which suggests that you don’t want to hear my real opinions on issues such as:

The War in Iraq. Over 2000 dead GIs. Cuts in veterans benefits. Supreme Court nominations. Globalization. Torture. The stealing of the 2004 election. Impeachment of Bush & Cheney.

The Democratic Party leadership has been too damn nice to Bush and his corporate sponsors.

It's mopt that the democratic party is too nice to "Bush and his corporate sponsors". The corporate sponsors of Bush are the sme corporate sponsors fot eh Dzemocratric Party. Most of the large corporations hedge theri bets and gvie money to both the Democratic dn Republican parties. Some dependign on who's in power at the moment give more to that respective party. It si a rare case that any of the large "multi-national" corporations only give money to one party. There are a few ideological givers who will decide to give moeny to the hard cops (Republicans) or the soft liberal cops (Demcrats) but there far and few, and probably cancel each other out.
