KPFA Workers Statement of No Confidence in GM Roy Campanella
Eighty paid and unpaid KPFA workers show their lack of confidence in General Manager Roy Campanella
Wednesday August 10th
We, the undersigned paid and unpaid KPFA staff, have lost confidence in the management of Roy Campanella II. While we do not look forward to a period of temporary leadership at the station, Campanella's exhibited lack of judgment during his 8 month tenure has destroyed his credibility with us, as well as put the station at risk of legal liability.

KPFA board has a big problem on its hands, if all these workers, many of whom I have the utmost respect for, have signed onto this statement. I read on another website that the board has been deliberating about whether to fire Campanella for three and a half months, while keeping the guy in the building next to workers who he's harassed and, in the case of Weyland Southen, threatened. What's going on? Is this what we fought for in 1999?
I've been shocked to see how a few people on IndyBay are making incredibly hostile allegations about the staff at KPFA, as if 80 people got together and conspired to drive out the first manager who really understood KPFA's mission.
The reality is quite the opposite. Campanella was a fundraiser for John Kerry in Hollywood, as well as the director of Bay Watch and Beverly Hills 90210. The guy is corporate through and through. It was a terrible mistake for KPFA to hire him, but now the station needs to cut it losses and have him go.
As you can see from looking at this statement, the position of workers has nothing to do with race. Prominent black programmers like Walter Turner, host of Africa Today, Rickey Vincent, Funky Man, T Cash, Nick Alexander, Davey D, and Anita Johnson of Hard Knock Radio have all signed the statement of no confidence in Campanella.
Campanella threatened Hard Knock's Weyland Southon with violence and followed him down to the sidewalk in front of the building to fight. He harassed and retaliated against a whole number of women -- all of color -- at the station. He drove Flashpoints programmer Solange Echeverria out of her job. And he repeatedly has violated worker's right to organize. What more do people need to find it unacceptable for him to head up a station committed to social justice?

This list of shame should resign today. This is obviously yet another attack on a second station manager who wants to make some good changes. Roy Campanella and Dennis Bernstein are both being attacked by the same reactionaries all with proven lies. This is a smear campaign worthy of the government attack on KPFA that Dennis warned us would come. The long-time programmers on this list are proud Democrats, so they certainly cannot be complaining that Campanella did fund-raising for a Democrat. As to "being corporate," that is neither part of the allegations as it is certainly not illegal, nor can it be a surprise as his background was certainly known to this gang when he was hired.
These constant smear postings on this website are out of order and are further proof that this is a contrived attack on our radio station. I can assure you most of the 25,000 subscribers to KPFA would prefer that this List of Shame resign and that Roy Campanella remain, along with Dennis Bernstein. We, the 25,000 subscribers, many of whom are long-time listeners, are very aware of who is NOT on this list, and they far outnumber those who are. They also include lots of long-time workers at the station. Both the court of public opinion and any court of law will certainly reject these false allegations and look upon this List of Shame as the agent provocateurs that they obviously are.

In a discussion as heated as this will get the anonimity afforded by the net becomes a hinderance. For an anonymous posting to attempt to snitch jacket anyone questioning the status-quo begs the question; who is the provacatuer? The signed staff of KPFA, the declared litigants against Bernstien and the station (who tried for over three years to resolve the issue any and eveywhere but court) or those who make unprovable charges from behind a keyboard?
Right on Ben S.
KPFA will be reborn, rising out of this latest crisis, stronger and healthier! And finally a safe place for women and revolutionaries.

Look at this list of KPFA 'staffers'. Find anybody you could seriously call politically 'progressive' or 'socialist'? Of course
not. Most are hacks for the liberal wing of the democratic party - aka 'sell outs'. They're the ones we, the working
class/progressive/socialist KPFA listeners, have no confidence in! They're the ones who should resign! It's time
KPFA rid itself of this cancer and get back to its' roots of being a beacon for progressive causes as it was for the four
decades of its existence before the Democrats moved in and
took it over in the late 80's. Anybody game for a counter-coup?

If you honestly think that Walter Turner, Kaloy Kayamunggi, Jade Paget-Seekins, CS Soong, Davey D, and Thenmozhi Soundrarajan,
to name just a few, are Democratic party hacks, than you're absolutely crazy. Enough said.
This is a workplace matter and it's about bad, abusive management and nothing else. It is tragic that the democratically elected board is allowing itself to be a party to destructive management out of blindness and stupidity.
You really think BET, and CBS needs to save the progressive movement from the likes of Thenmozhi Soundrarajan?
Gee.... that's a politically acute analysis.
Just listen to yourselves for a minute, okay? Just listen.

Aaron Arons, Riva Enteen and Joe Wanzala will decide for you who is a progressive and who is not. Ask no questions. They have A List. Perhaps Mara ErrRiva will favor the plebians with Radical Wisdom on all matters. Or at least they will find out what Michael Ruppert and Alex Jones think.
