Berkeley has a new Really, Really Free Market, which takes place on the first Saturday of each month. On Saturday, August 6th, an "Anarchist Masseur" provided free massages next to blankets that had books, clothing, and other assorted items...all for free! The really, really free market is like a flea market, except that everything is free! Anyone can bring stuff and set it out for people to browse and take home.

Free Markets are now held in Berkeley from 12-4pm on the first Saturday of the month, at MLK Park, next to the Farmers' Market, at Martin Luther King Way and Allston Way. People are encouraged to bring their talents such as juggling, poetry, music, bodywork, and art, as well as stuff that is still cool or working, but that you don't need, and set it out for people to take...for free!

So far, there have been two markets in Berkeley (July and August). A bottomliner is needed to publicize the September 3rd market and to make sure that it happens, since the regular organizer will be at Burning Man. Contact kevintouch at msn.com for more info.

>>It's like the worst garage sale in the world

Or the start of a revolution.

You never know. Things have to start somewhere.

A lot of things in Berkeley are like the worst garage sale in the world and have price tags. And a lot of crap in stores that costs a lot of money, when taken outside and seen in the sunlight, is exposed as the crap that it is.

The worst garage sale in the world, when free, is still a threat to the system . . . designed for the majority of humans to function as robots to keep the system alive for the wishes of the fantastically wealthy, which control it.

I think this is a great idea. You won't hear me complain... This has the potential to become something huge, and permanent.
