Request for Volunteer Drivers and Protesters

The day labor program has two upcoming pickets scheduled in order to get
back unpaid wages of three San Francisco Day Laborers.

Picket #1: Wednesday 2/9/05 meet at the trailers 8:00 a.m. travel to San
Bruno
Case of Fernando Perez. Day Labor who is owed over $2000.00 for work he
did over a month. We don't have an address or phone number of the employer
BUT the employer is still working on the construction job where Fernando
worked. We need to get to the site quickly to get the wages back or in the
very least, get some more information about the employer. Many day
laborers wish to join us in solidarity with Fernando but need
transportation from the Day Labor Program site (17th and Hampshire) in San
Francisco to San Bruno.

Picket #2: Sunday 2/27/05 in Fairfield California
Case of Manuel and Samuel Hernandez. This case is especially egregious for
a variety of reasons. First, we have judgments against the employer, Ruben
Cruz, totaling over $12,000.00. Ruben showed up at the Labor Commission
hearing and admitted he never paid the workers. After receiving the award,
we made several appointments with him to make partial payments on the
judgment and he never showed up to the appointments. Second, Manuel and
Samuel are not the only day laborers who have been exploited by Ruben. I
personally know of three other cases against him. Third, Samuel's wife is
dying in Mexico and he has not returned in-part waiting to collect his
wages from Ruben Cruz. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! Ruben leaves early for work each
morning and returns late in the evening. For this reason, we think it best
to protest in front of his home on a Sunday. Fairfield is about 1 hour
away from San Francisco but after you meet these workers, you won't regret
spending part of your Sunday helping them get back their wages. Help us
bring a group of day laborers to Fairfield to get these wages back.

Please e-mail me back if you can drive/participate in either of these
protests. Please let me know how many workers you can bring. I will send
more details to you before the protest. If you have any questions, feel
free to call me (415) 553-3415.

Thanks so much!!! In solidarity,

Hillary
