A 34,000 vote "clerical error" highlights voting problems in the US
Whether or not you believe that the amount of voting "irregularities" in the US would have changed the outcome of the 2004 Presidential election, surely in a so called "beacon of freedom and democracy" the widespread nature of voting problems only highlights concerns that results cannot be trusted in the present system.
(from http://logicvoice.blogspot.com/2004/12/34000-vote-clerical-error-highlights.html )
Just one example of the scale of problems in America is given in this report ( http://www.sptimes.com/2004/12/03/Tampabay/Pinellas_voting_gaffe.shtml ). In November apparently, voters in Florida had to decide whether or not to legalise slot machines. An ammendment it seemed according to the results on the night was defeated by 17,000 votes, however, the official state results now indicate the exact opposite of this. And the reasons given for this change? A clerical error.
This was a "clerical error" in just one county of Florida.
Meanwhile, in one Ohio county 4 election officials have been suspended " after board leaders say there could have been a mistake with the November elections process" according to this report. ( http://www.wtol.com/Global/story.asp?s=2646613 )
