Hotel Lockout Over For Now; Community Solidarity Action on 11/20

by Community Solidarity
Lock-out over... Workers and hotel management enter cooling off period... 11/20 Action to Support Hotel Workers...

As of Nov. 20, 2004, UNITE-HERE Local 2 and the SF Multi Employer Group have entered a "cooling off" period, ending the lock-out while negotiations continue.

Prior to this news, a community solidarity action to support hotel workers' struggle for healthcare and demand an end to the lockout had been called by supporters for Saturday, 11/20 in San Francisco.

The 14 locked-out hotels picked the wrong city to attack workers. Healthcare is a human right the community pledges to defend, with a campaign of solidarity actions until the workers' demands are met.

With the lockout over for now, community allies continue to demand from the hotels:
  • New contract immediately
  • No increase in worker contributions to the health care plan
  • A contract length of two years

The Million Worker March Committee, SF Labor Council, UNITE-HERE Local 2, and ILWU Local 10 will hold a Rally and Picket on 11/20, starting at 11 a.m. at Union Square and marching to several hotels and finally to Justin Herman Plaza. Join the action at 1:30 p.m. at Powell and Market Streets.
