Another murdered woman's body found south of Edmonton, Alberta

by swaneagle harijan (peacenow [at] theoffcienet.com, frontlinemom [at] yahoo.com)
The serial torture murders of women continue unimpeded in Canada, U.S. and Mexico. Most of those killed are women of color and often, sex workers, Indigenous people, homeless, homosexuals, immigrants and others having no voice. When will activists pay attention to what these increasing killings imply?
June 24, 2004

Last night, i heard another report on the CBC that the murdered body of yet another woman was found south of Edmonton, Alberta. Over 100 such bodies have been found over the past decade, largely unsolved. Such horror has been highlighted by the excessive numbers of tortured, raped and murdered women in Ciudad Juarez, but it is occurring all over the Americas. What will it take for activists to integrate this hideous reality into our struggle for authentic peace and justice?

Since 1997 i have been documenting the alarming number of marginalized peoples murdered in racist bordertowns by reservations, in many inner cities and remote lonely areas. As the situation for all dwellers of this fragile planet becomes worse, the vulnerability of the poorest people accelerates. The target groups illustrate the stark reality that the peace and justice movement has failed to integrate the struggles of people most impacted by sexism, racism, classism and violence.

It makes it of particular concern that activists pay attention to the part Deception Dollars-the 9/11 bucks-play in promoting hate disguised as THE movement to expose the part the U.S. governement played in the Twin Tower fiasco. That so many otherwise conscious people pass these bucks out and promote the events these bigots organize is the single most disturbing indicater of how unedicated activists are when it comes to truly uprooting the bigotry that plagues all who carry privilege. Lazy lefties don't bother checking the sites out, yet will pass hundreds of the Deceptive Dollars to others who also maintain ignorance.

White supremacy, misogyny, homophobia and anti-immigrant sentiment are alive and well among the peace movement and the continued self-imposed ignorance of activists serves the agenda of killers. It is urgent that all people of conscience educate themselves and others about the seriousness of the AmeriKKKan Death Squads, who inspires their activities and why police fail to act effectively in tracking down and convicting the killers. More important, white and wealthy citizens tend to have their murder cases prioritized, while thousands of murders not only go unsolved, but continue unabated.

We have no hope of ending genocide in other countries if we cannot even admit it continues on this continent. The struggles of ALL PEOPLE for basic human rights must be the very heart of the work we do and must serve as a catalyst to action that utilizes white skin privilege in demanding an end to these heinous crimes against humanity. It must happen NOW!
