Psychiatric Pharmaceutical Police State

by moth
Biotech and pharmaceutical corporations are profiting from people's emotional suffering, prescribing psychiatric medications as quick fix solutions when the cause is rooted in racial and class oppression, the isolating forces of consumerist capitalism..
The recent biotech convention in SF also included the pharmaceutical corporations like Novartis, Elli-Lily and Bristol/Myers/Squibb, all interested in using gene guns to randomly insert pharmceutical products like Elli-Lily's "Prozac" into genetically modified Monsanto corn..

After being arrested Tues am i was taken to the hospital and eventually admitted to the psychiatric jail ward at SF general on a 5150 (72 hour involuntary hold). This was a result of having passed out and hit my head in the police transport wagon. After waking up in the hospital i was incoherent and deemed a danger to self. Almost immediately i was prescribed psychiatric medication. Fortunately i was able to refuse these chemicals from entering my body, though this was only because of the legal defense attorney. Otherwise i would have been recommitted on a 5250 and forced on medication against my will by a "Reise" order. This is when the patient is deemed unable to make their own decisions about their body and the risk of medication's side effects that are not limited to tiredness, loss of thinking ability, nervous twitching, etc...

Observing my peers in the hospital, many were heavily sedated by various psychiatric medications. The boredom of the inpatient unit combined with overmedication causes many patients to sleep or shuffle around in a walking slumber. Well meaning and caring staff workers are prevented from talking with patients by mountains of boreocratic paperwork from the administration. The impossible contradictions of psych hospital regulations frustrate the patient into accepting the pharmceutical sedative..

Psychiatric pharmaceuticals prescribed to people are mind numbing tranquilizers meant to dull the emotional pain the person is experiencing. Living on the streets with constant police harrassment is enough to drive people into psychosis. Other people in society are isolated by consumer capitalist society and pushed into depression. The termed "mental illness" that people experience is blamed on their genetics, without looking at their social situation that is usually stressful enough to alter their perception of reality. The solution offered by the pharmaceutical corps is a chemical tranquilizer with long term side effects. These dangerous pharmaceutical chemicals are state sanctioned while tried and true medicianal plants are outlawed..

Cannibis sativa was used since ancient Egypt/Mesopotamia (now US occupied Iraq) for thousands of years by diverse groups of people for both physical and emotional healing, though now we are told we need the pharmaceutical corporations to heal "mental illness", and biotech corporations want to insert "Prozac" in our food..

Shamans who have knowledge of medicinal/hallucinogenic plants for healing are bought out by pharmaceutical "bioprospecters" who attempt to biopatent the DNA of the medicinal plant so the pharmaceutical corporations can isolate compounds in attempts to mimic the healing spirit of the sacred plant. Police state tactics outlaw the consumption of the sacred Cannibis or Psilocybe mushroom yet allow the biotheft of indigenous knowledge by pharmaceutical corporations. Police/military/CIA exist as another gang that only exist to protect their thuggish corporate employers and violently beat anyone who stands against them down into submission..

We can overgrow the imperialist system..

here is paragraph from article;

In psychiatry, the term neuroleptic is now preferred. A list of trade names of neuroleptics in use today includes Haldol (haloperidol), Thorazine (chlorpromazine), Stelazine (trifluoperazine), Vesprin (trifluopromazine), Mellaril (thioridazine), Prolixin or Permitil (fluphenazine), Navane (thiothixene), Trilafon (perphenazine), Tindal (acetophenazine), Taractan (chlorprothixene), Loxitane or Daxolin (loxapine), Moban or Lidone (molindone), Serentil (mesoridazine), Orap (pimozide), Quide (piperacetazine), Repoise (butaperazine), Compazine (prochlorperazine), Dartal (thiopropazate), and Clozaril (clozapine). The antidepressant Ascendin (amoxapine) turns into a neuroleptic when it is metabolized in the body and should be considered a neuroleptic. Etrafon or Triavil is a combination of a neuroleptic (perphenazine) and an antidepressant (amitriptyline), and it combines the impact and the risks of both.

Several hundred thousand patients are admitted to state hospitals each year, diagnosed as schizophrenic. Nearly all prescribed neuroleptics. Hundreds of thousands get them through outpatient clinics. Millions of people a year are treated with neuroleptics on the wards and in the clinics of state mental health systems. Additional millions more are receiving neuroleptics or antipsychotics through sources outside the state mental hospital system and long-term clinics. Many of the millions of patients in nursing homes are on neuroleptics. Added to these are those being treated with these drugs in private psychiatric hospitals, and in the psychiatric and medical wards of general hospitals, plus in institutions for people with retardation, inboard-and-care homes, prisons, and private practices--and the total swells to many millions. Even homeless people in shelters are sometimes forced to take them. The first neuroleptic was Thorazine (chlorpromazine). In recent years, Haldol (haloperidol), has become the most prescribed neuroleptic. Very little is written in professional sources about he apathy, disinterest, and other lobotomy-like effects of the drugs. Review articles tend to give no hint that the medications are actually stupefying the patients and that life on a typical mental hospital ward is listless at best. When given relatively small doses, neuroleptics cause the patient to sit or lie motionless in bed, often pale and with eyelids lowered. He remains silent most of the time. If questioned, he answers slowly and deliberately in a monotonous and indifferent voice; he expresses himself in a few words and becomes silent.
