Stanford University

Setsu Shigematsu will speak out against US Imperialism and discuss ways in which Asians and Asian Americans can resist.
Whether addressing representations of sexuality in Japan or the development of Asian American social movements, Dr. Shigematsu routinely engages questions of identity and liberation. She is anti-imperialist, anti-white supremacist, and an inspiring advocate of radical action. She has researched women and violence in Japanese comics, as well as war's impact on women (specifically "comfort women" and karayuki-san in the Pacific War). She has also studied the development of transnational activism in Asian women's movements. She is a founding organizer of RAW (Radical Alliance of Women), a group that focuses on violence against women and offers martial arts training.

Also speaking will be Sun Hyung Lee, who will talk about what Asians and Asian Americans can do to prevent a war on Korea.
