Leroy Moore about Disabled Folks and the SF Police Commission

---Leroy Moore here,

I'm pissed about the latest police shooting of another
Black disabled man. I'm more pissed at the gray
story the media has reported. The SF. Bay Guardian
this week has an article on the new police commission
and once again there is no one on this commission that
has experience around disability\mental health issue
although most of the police shooting involves people
of color with mental illness and now with the murder
of Mr. Boyed SFPD IS KILLING PEOPLE WITH PHYSICAL
DISABILITIES TOO.

I think it is time to have someone with mental health
and physsical disabilities on this commission and we
need a Baay Area organization that takes up this
issues i.e. keeping records, reporting to media on how
to cover this issue, holding forums and to get the
Department of Justoce involves. This is a American
with Disabilities Act issue. So many times I see the
issue of disability fading in cases invovling police
killings or parents are not inform enough about how
disability played apart of the killingg. I don't see
other disabled organization dealing with this issue.

Remember the Xi Tao Wu or Gian Yu case? Both had
mental illness and still police are still free. After
the work the community did to get the crisis training
implemented, people are still being murdered by cops.
What is next? What caan we do? After prop H and
police commission we are still being killed and the
indentity of disability is almost invisible.

What to do? 1) Established a Bay area organization
with support aand backing to make reccomendation on
this issue and public education etc.. 2) To included
people with disabilities and mental illness on
commissions, boards and other Bay are organization
dealing with police brutality.
3) To put together a White Paper on this issue to
speak about the need to set up some collabration
between all disabled, poeple of color and othe
activist organization Bay Are orgaaanization.

Right now we haave patchwork onn cp shooting of
people with disabilities. We only com together when
there is a shooting i.e. Boyed. This is not good
enough. I know wwe have police watch Octoberr 22nd
coalition The Ellen Baaker Center and the Idriss
Stelley Foundation and they do great work but it is
time to come together to on behalf of people of color
with disabilities to form the next step.

Yes, we need a rally for Mr. Boyd but we also need to
do a lot more. Please I can't stand seeing my
disabled brothers and sisters of color being killed by
police and not being recorgnized because there is no
collaboration to form a organization on behalf of them
locally and statewide.
