Defend equal rights, March 20, at Dolores Park!
At big SF peace demo, one faction will demonstrate against equal marriage rights. You're invited to demonstrate FOR equal rights, at Dolores Park, 10:30AM. DIY!
March 20, SF: Defend equal rights at Dolores Park!
At the big March 20 peace demo in San Francisco, the negativist "Gay Shame" faction will demonstrate AGAINST equal marriage rights for queers. This will follow recent SF anti-equality protests by homophobes (including overt Nazis), reactionary fundamentalist Christians, and reactionary fundamentalist Muslims.
Are there any queers willing to demonstrate FOR civil rights, on March 20?
If YOU are willing, please come to Dolores Park, in SF's Mission District, at 10:30 AM on this coming Saturday, March 20. Gather on the front steps of the park, rising from Dolores Street near 19th Street.
Be creative, colorful, and self-directing. Don't expect anyone to herd you. (Who's the leader? YOU are!)
Possible suggestions: Bring flowers, especially as wedding bouquets? Bring flags, especially rainbow flags? Bring brown rice? Bring blow-up posters of same-sex marriage certificates? Bring posters of relevant photos? Wear wedding regalia? Bring Valentine's stuff?
Getting there: The "J" streetcar takes you from downtown SF to Dolores Park. Get off at 18th & Church, walk downhill on 18th to Dolores Street, turn right on Dolores and walk to the steps.

Because I think the struggle for equal rights and the struggle against war are both about justice, and because I'm tired of the snarling pro-war and anti-gay marraige attack dogs.
I'll march for equal rights and justice. We can be the Peter Tosh contingent!

I am no big fan of Gay Shame, but you are really twisting their words. They are not demonstrating against equal rights for gays. They happen to believe that marriage is an oppressive institution and that queers should not be supporting it. They happen to be right about the origins of marriage.
Gay Shame, like George W. Bush, has not merely failed to support gay marriage, which is certainly their right--but actually *condemn* gay marriage, on the grounds that marriage must remain as it has always been and cannot possibly be reformed into a nurturing and positive institution. Bush and Gay Shame only differ on what that supposedly "eternal and unchanging" nature really is, and both interpretations of gay marriage are obviously wrong.
How quickly you all forget that your Saint Gavin was the one that gave $500.00 to the republican campaign, and much of this current marriage rhetoric is being paid for by the log cabin republicans. Bush is against gay marriage, gay shame is against all marriage. There was once a time when an understanding of the intrinsic problems with marriage were circulating within the queer and feminist circles, but now its cause for celebration?
Gay Shame opposes all marriage = Gay Shame opposes gay marriage
Gay Shame opposes gay marriage = Gay Shame sides with discriminatory government and bigoted religion in their mutual discrimination quest to deny gays the freedom to choose for ourselves what sort of personal lifestyle we, as queer individuals, wish to live
Gay Shame opposes freedom of lifestyle choice for gays = Gay Shame amounts to nothing more than tyrannical behavior fascists with Puritanical aesthetics.
Here comes Gay Shame--here comes the Purity Police! Are your personal lifestyle choices pure enough to pass muster with the Morality Police of Gay Shame? No? Then prepare to be humiliated and opposed!

all this pro-marriage inductive reasoning is reminding me of that wonderful "burn the witch!" scene in python's "holy grail". except that was funnier.
You are not only on the wrong side of history, you've literally driven yourself to distraction with your dislike of those who think and live differently than you do.
It's too bad. Most of the issues Gay Shame-types raise are worth exploring as a community, but because you believe the ends justify the means, you end up alienating the very people you might otherwise reach.
