Monday in SF Testify to Stop Chain Stores from Sneaking Into Our Neighborhoods

Historical legislation will be heard Monday at 4 pm to require that neighborhoods where chain stores want to operate be notified in advance. This will stop them from sneaking in. Chains drive up the costs for everyone. They have deep pockets ususally from anti-union, sweatshop profits. Protect Our Diversity

at City Hall on Monday, March 15th!

WHERE?
City Hall (at Van Ness and Grove)Room 263
In front of the Board of Supervisors’ Land Use Committee

WHEN?
1) Monday, March 15th at 4:00 p.m.
This legislation is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. (The meeting starts at 1:00), you will be able to speak during the public comment period which begins shortly after 4:00 p.m.

2) NOW: Call, write, and/or email the Supervisors to let them know you support the legislation that seeks to protect neighborhood character and small businesses. Following the Land Use Committee meeting on the 15th the legislation will be heard at the full Board on Tuesday, March 23rd. (You will not be able to speak at the Board Meeting, Tuesday, 3/23. Only Monday 3/15.)

WHAT
Does Matt Gonzalez’s legislation do?
<sum> Requires neighborhood residents and businesses to be notified whenever a chain store (with more than eleven stores and standardized services/décor/etc.) intends to move into the area.
<sum> Specifies additional permitting reviews for proposed formula retail stores in Cole Valley and prohibits formula businesses from a four-block area of Hayes Valley.

<sum> Gives residents the option of having a more prominent voice in planning for the future of their neighborhoods
<sum> Helps even the playing field between large chains and small independent businesses
<sum> Supports the local economy
<sum> Prevents San Francisco from further deterioration into Anytown, USA
