¡No Quiero Taco Bell!
Join Farmworkers at Taco Bell's Irvine Headquarters to Demand a Living Wage and Humane Working Conditions
FLORIDA FARMWORKERS HEAD CROSS-COUNTRY ON "TACO BELL TRUTH TOUR," TAKE FIGHT FOR HUMAN AND CIVIL RIGHTS TO FAST-FOOD GIANT TACO BELL
Food First and Coalition of Immokalee Workers Support Committee Organize a Bus from Bay Area to Join the Farmworkers at Taco Bell Headquarters in Irvine, CA. March 5
Who:
Food First and Coalition of Immokalee Workers (CIW) Bay Area Support Committee.
What:
Organizing a bus from the Bay Area to bring "Truth Riders" to Irvine to meet up with the CIW for the final leg of the march as they rally at the Taco Bell headquarters in Irvine.
The Taco Bell Truth Tour, organized by the Coalition of Immokalee Workers, will begin in Louisville, Kentucky on February 27, where farmerworkers, labor unions, religious organizations and student groups will gather to demand better pay and working conditions for farmworkers at the corporate offices of Yum! Brands, the corporate owners of Taco Bell.
From there, the tour will head across the country, winding up in Los Angeles for a three-day march to Taco Bell's headquarters in Irvine, Orange County, culminating in a huge rally that will feature Food First's Anuradha Mittal, Fast Food Nation author Eric Schlosser, and performances by Tom Morello of "Rage Against the Machine" and Hip Hop artist Boots Riley.
This march and rally will also be in solidarity with the striking UFCW, whose members will also be joining the march.
Where:
Bus leaves on March 4 with pickups at 24th and Mission in San Francisco at 11pm and McArthur Bart in Oakland at midnight. Bus will return to Bay Area by midnight on March 5th.
The suggested donation is $25 per person for the round-trip bus ride plus food and drinks. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.
For those unable to join the march, please donate to sponsor another “truth rider.”
How:
Visit the Food First website at http://www.foodfirst.org/ciw to sign up or sponsor a Truth Rider. Or call Jessica Marques, Mexico Solidarity Network, (415) 621-8100. There are limited seats on the bus so sign up immediately!
Why:
The CIW has organized a national boycott against Taco Bell since 2000. After several years of marches, truth tours, hunger strikes, the multi-billion dollar corporation is unwilling to meet the demands of the farmworkers who are demanding just a penny more for a bucket of tomatoes.
