This is a mini teach-in/Self-Help kit on what to do if the FBI or INS calls, or if you are served with a Grand Jury Subpoena --the key to resistance is knowing your rights -- learn what your options are!
$3 students, $5-20 sliding scale, no one turned away -- proceeds to National Lawyers Guild Emergency Legal fund.
For info, call 415-285-1055 or 510-548-0542
--You'll also hear testimonials from people targeted by the FBI and INS in the past, including MICHEL SHIHADEH from the LA 8. Michel is Western Regional Director of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee and a member of the LA 8 -- a group of 7 Palestinian-Americans and one Kenyan-American who were detained and threatened with deportation by the INS for their political activism. This case opened the door to a variety of harsh anti-immigrant legislation.
Many members of the activist community, including Arab-Americans and Muslim-Americans -- are being called by the FBI regarding September 11. If they call YOU, this evening will give you information about how to respond, how to get help, how to help others, inspire you from hearing how others have gotten through this experience -- and remind you that you are not alone!
Sponsored by: American-Arab Anti- Discrimination Committee, Middle East Children's Alliance, National Lawyers Guild, San Francisco Women in Black, & SOUL (School of Unity & Liberation)
Endorsers: East Bay Peace Action, INS WATCH/La Raza Centro Legal, International Action Center, Jewish Voice for Peace, KPFA, LAGAI (Lesbians & Gays Against Intervention), QUIT, SWANABAQ (Southwest Asians & North African Bay Area Queers)
