RAN is selling out its Citigroup campaign. Afraid of deeming the campaign a failure, RAN has entered into a "period of negotiations". The Equator principals are hardly going to save us from this corporation's appetite for destruction. Get a clue RAN.

On their website:

Rainforest Action Network Statement on Citi Negotiations
For Immediate Release: July 15, 2003

In April, 2003, Citigroup (Citi) and Rainforest Action Network (RAN) entered into a period to explore comprehensive solutions to issues of mutual concern about the environment and related issues. At that time, RAN suspended all public protest activities, and RAN and Citi have since been actively engaged in continuous good-faith negotiations.

The issues of climate change and endangered ecosystems are among the most important environmental issues of our time. Citigroup has helped to lead efforts to establish industry-wide environmental standards for project finance, and has, in this time period, released a document known as the Equator Principles, underscoring a commitment to playing a leadership role in helping to meet these challenges.

Citi and RAN have been actively exploring policy options for the comprehensive protection of endangered ecosystems and the impacts of climate change in the conduct of business. These policies are based on input from multiple stakeholders, clients and investors, with reference to external guidelines and best practices.

We believe that this partnership has the potential to lead to unprecedented action in the financial sector with regard to environmental and social issues. We also believe we are evolving an even deeper understanding of how the financial services industry can help promote sustainable development while protecting the environment.

RAN is pleased to report progress with Citi on the important issues of forest protection, global warming and the rights of indigenous people, and will extend for forty-five days the period of its cease-fire with Citigroup to allow time to develop a comprehensive policy.

During the extension, good-faith negotiations between RAN and Citi will continue in an effort to achieve genuine resolution on the issues of

Just type in Citibank with a cuss word on google and see how many entries you find. If you see good reviews of Citibank it is either because a Citibank employee posted it or because the person has only used Citibank for a very short time. They lied to me about the terms of my student credit card again and again. I was told the card had 3 percent cash back. I had the card for over a year. I called many times to ask where my cash back was. I was told a different lie each time-you haven't acrued enough money, blah, blah, etc, etc. I was even told my card had no cash back advantage-ironic because the add said in big leters 3 percent cash back.

The final and most ridicolous execuse not even stated in the paperwork was that I would only receive cash back on money which had acrued interest. While the card starts at zero percent interest they will quickly shoot you all the way up to 28 percent interest, even if you always pay the balance in full(I found this out from others). So basically we have a card that A)Only "gives" you 3 percent cash back when you pay 28 percent interest giving evil Citibank a net gain of 25 percent B)that teaches students bad habits by encouraging them not to pay their balances in full.

Additionally, Citibank not only on this card, but on all its cards charges bogus late fees. Citibank even makes everyone sign a binding arbitratin agreement which a North Carolina court ruled inconscienable. This is to make sure you don't get any justice. They donate huge amounts to politicians (both Republicans and Democrats) to make sure they can get away with ripping you off and pass anti-consumer legislation.

Also another warning. Don't use studentcreditcard.com. It is run by Citibank. It is a deliberate attempt to trick students into using their horrible Citibank student cards.
