More than 300 people rallied at Monument Gate in Rio Dell at the September 15 Rally to Save the Mattole Forest.
On Sunday, September 15, 2002, more than 300 local residents, forest activists and environmentalists from throughout the region gathered to protest Maxxam/Pacific Lumber's illegal liquidation of the Mattole Forest. Speakers included local residents, Earth First activist Darryl Cherney, and marathon tree-sitters Remedy and Wren, along with a diverse array of local musicians.
