6/30 Join SFGay Day Labor Contingent

by Socialist
As we know, June is Gay Pride Month, and San Francisco's Gay Pride Parade and Celebration, attracting 1 million plus participants, is the best in the West! The 32nd Annual Parade and Celebration will be on June 30, 2002 from Beale and Market (near the Embarcadero) to the Civic Center. As always, there will be a Labor Contingent, and everyone regardless of sexual orientation who supports labor and gay rights is welcome to join us.

The 32nd Annual Parade and Celebration will be on June 30, 2002 from Beale and Market (near the Embarcadero) to the Civic Center. As always, there will be a Labor Contingent, and everyone regardless of sexual orientation who supports labor and gay rights is welcome to join us.

The theme this year is "Be Yourself; Change the World." For details on the parade and celebration, see: http://www.sfpride.org/

The gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender/transsexual movement came from the peace movement protesting the Vietnam War as well as the civil rights movements of the 1960s. The gay and women's liberation movements, both closely related, had as their foundation the locomotive of American history, the black liberation struggle. All of the movements of the 1960s and 1970s looked to the labor movement of the 1930s and 1940s as a role model and for historical lessons.

The Labor Contingent, organized by Pride at Work, embraces all the progressive political causes as they all benefit the workingclass. We urge everyone who does not have a contingent to join ours. Bring your union banners if you are a union member, your socialist banners, your Mumia Abu-Jamal banners, your Palestine liberation struggle banners and the signs and banners of all other such progressive movements.

Mumia Abu-Jamal refused to cross a picketline at ABC-TV to publicize his case as he put labor first, which is to say, facing death, he put his life on the line for labor. We welcome all other supporters of Mumia Abu-Jamal, as we support Mumia too.

You can and should also bring your leaflets for your favorite causes to leaflet the crowds as we march and at the celebration. This is a time to build bridges among our various struggles and to educate each other about the importance of supporting the various movements.

Labor had a contingent at the peace march for Palestine and peace around the world on April 20, and we hope to see lots of supporters of the Palestine liberation struggle in our Labor Contingent on Gay Pride Day.

It is a little early to know exactly where we will be in this parade, but in the past few years, we have marched in the lead hour. Watch this website for information as we get closer to the one and only, not-to-be missed, San Francisco Gay Pride Parade & Celebration date of June 30, 2002!

The Dyke March will be on June 29, 2002. See http://www.dykemarch.org/
