a crowd of about 150 predominantly bayview hunters point youth marched around the pg&e hunters point power plant on saturday, demanding the closure of the power plant which is polluting their neighborhood.
pg&e promised to shut down the power plant several years ago and has not. as folks marched around the backside of the power plant they hung japanese peace cranes on the chain link fence separating the plant from heron's head park. local youth have helped to restore the wetlands at the park over the last few years. the march was the concluding event for the people's earth day fair, sponsored by literacy for environmental justice.
