Washington Post Article Reveals Anti-Semitic Bias

by #33
"Another Arab Population Grows Angry at Israel"
LAQIYA, Israel -- A rectangle of brown, dead stalks lies sadly among surrounding fields of newly sprouting wheat. At the edge of the ruined field, a sign with a skull and crossbones warns, Danger Poison.

The field was among a number of plots ruined by Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's government, which last month sent out crop-dusters with herbicides to destroy 3,000 acres of wheat planted, without authorization, by Bedouin farmers in the arid Negev region of southern Israel. The destruction has brought to the surface a long-simmering feud between the small, impoverished Bedouin population and the government in Jerusalem.

A rare flash of common sense is more like it. It's this level of over-sensitivity that is most responsible for fanning the flames of anti-Jewish sentiment. Yes, Ariel Sharon's fascist government is carrying out atrocities against Palestinian civilians. Yes, this fact is being obscured by the Jewish power structure in Europe and North America, including well-placed Jews in the United States' government and media, including the Washington Post. Anyone who would mistake such simple statements of fact for "anti-Semitism" needs to get in touch with the reality in which most of us are living.

"Anyone who would mistake such simple statements of fact for "anti-Semitism" needs to get in touch with the reality in which most of us are living."

Who is the "most of us" you are refering to? Most of the people on IMC or most of the people in the US? If you are refering to the former you are correct but if you are refering to the latter I am not so sure.

What this goes to show is that two people can interpret the same piece of "objective" information and come to two completely different conclusions.

A comment above made the following anti-Semitic statement: "Jewish power structure in Europe and North America, including well-placed Jews in the United States' government and media." It is the capitalist power structure that is promoting Israel, for the benefit of oil company profits. This writer, who happens to be an atheist of Jewish descent (the most common variety of Jewish in the US) and from a Holocaust family, supports the Palestinian liberation struggle and has no ruling class power as this writer is a member of the workingclass, those of us who sell our labor for less than $70,000 per year (and in my case, less than $50,000 per year), and I do not even own any property or stocks and bonds or have any inheritance coming to me. There are lots of us "Jews Without Money." All ethnic groups are divided by class, and the Jewish community is no exception. I suggest you stick to economic terms. The capitalist class of the United States, regardless of ethnicity, is promoting Israel and its genocidal policies against Arabs so as to guarantee oil company profits. The name of the game is always money in this society and the primary law of capitalism is maximization of profit. It is time to get rid of the profit motive and establish socialism. For that, we need a labor movement. That means organize the unorganized internationally.

Dear International Workingclass,

Thank you for bringing some thoughtful commentary to this discussion.

I may not agree with you about your take on capital and labor, but I'm glad that someone from the left/anarchist/progressive side has the decency to call the remarks above for what they are.... pure Anti-semitism.

For everyone else, remember these things:

a) There is no Zionist Occupied Government
b) Jews don't "run all the banks"
c) Jews don't "own" the media
d) Jews don't "own" the congress
e) Jews DO put a value on education
f) Jews DO work hard and provide for their families
g) Jews DO care about the little guy!

and, ultimately.....

Jews give more monetary and political SUPPORT to PROGRESSIVE causes than any other group!

In other words, don't bite the hand that feeds you, and don't let Socialism become National Socialism.

call me anti-semite, but jews do own, or at the very least run, Hollywood. =]

and anti-semite or not, this whole argument is bullshit. the fact that one can be anti-semite and have little or no power AT ALL to uphold prejudices or hate towards jews means you people are wasting your fucking time. but there are plenty jews who if you fuck with, they will fuck you up (in Hollywood, Washington, New York City, Israel, etc.).

it's about who's got the hold on the power structure, and WHITE jews have a larger upper-class proportion and power in the political system than just about any other ethnic group. oh, let's not forget, WHITE jews get a lot of white privilege. so fuck you and your anti-semitism shit, live with it! no one will drive jews into the sea, believe me, millions of arabs will be bombed before that ever happens, so while Jews have the power they have, and while many of them are murdering Palestinians day in and day out, the least they can do is deal with the criticism of their privileges and their fucking behavior!

pick up any newspaper in the third world (muslim or not), it's "anti-semite" GALORE! wake da fuck up!

oh, label me "anti-semite" if you'd like, there's nothing i could do to white jews as a person of color anyways.

Thank you for proving my point.

The despicable foul language always seems to accompany bourgeois nationalism these days. It is capitalism that promotes anti-Semitism, racism and exploitation of the workingclass. The press of the Arab world that uses such anti-Semitic lies is the capitalist press of that world, not the socialist press. In the US, the same anti-Semitic outlook exists on the part of the ruling class, but cannot be so explicitly stated. The latest revelations of Nixon's anti-Semitic statements are typical of the anti-Semitism that prevails in the United States, not just on the part of the capitalist class, but throughout this society, and the Zionists use that to promote capitalism, which is their only concern.

I do not have anything to do with Hollywood or the capitalist press. It is only thanks to rent control, fought for by the workingclass, that I have a roof over my head. Hollywood movies are the garbage capitalist ideology, with very rare exceptions that never receive the promotion that the trash receives.

The hate-mongering we are witnessing on this website both against Jews and against Arabs is a sign of a very weak workingclass. In Italy, this weekend, 2 million people marched in Rome for labor, with red flag flying everywhere. They are planning a general strike in April. That is what we need in this country if we are to advance on all fronts, including the fight against anti-Semitism against Jews and Arabs (we are both Semites).

I think I will go back to listening to Italian opera from New York's Metropolitan Opera House, being broadcast on a radio station I believe is primarily Christian in San Francisco. It is KJQI, 1510 AM . Verdi's Luisa Miller is absolutely gorgeous.

umm...

hey international self-appointed working class.

Zionism has defeated the egalitarian socialists that ran the kibitzum. hey there gone, zionism is just another boogie capitalist structure. zionist are part of the capitalist ruling class here in america and zio-capitalist do run most of dc. then again maybe you are too caught up in your fantasies about the revolution and eventual proletariat victory, even at the expense of the lumpen proletariat which you denounce as being some sort of nationalist innebriated idiots. unfortunately, zio-capitalism is the problem not peoples self-determination struggles.

Even though it has already been touched on a bit by the previous posters, I would like to sum things up. First, I find it very frightening that the people who label themselves at the forefront of enlightenment and the progressives of our times are arguing against the Jews! If our schools still taught people history and logic, instead of inflated self-esteem, it would be known that the Jews have been, by far, the most repeatedly persecuted group of people in the history of civilization. Well before Islam had even been devised the Jews had been persecuted by many, most notibly the Egyptians and the Romans, but also the Hittites, Persians, etc.

It is also scary to look at the language of the anti-semite posts on indybay. The language being used by the majority of posters dealing with this issue has an uncanny resemblance to language of the impressionable in 1930's Germany. The Jews run the banks? The Jews run the economy? Next someone will say that the Jews were at fault for WWI. But wait, you do argue that they are at fault for the Six-Day war, even though they were attacked first! As well, you argue for the "liberation" of a country that did not, and has never existed. At least the Zionist took back what was rightfully and historically theirs.
