In a rare Bay Area visit, leaders of the Indigenous Women's Movement
of Mexico will give an update from the front lines of indigenous
struggle in Chiapas, Guerrero, and Oaxaca. They will share the
history of how indigenous women have been nurturing rebellion from
the roots and discuss new developments in their work to counter
globalization and efforts to extend free trade agreements from Puebla
to Panama. As the first independent national indigenous women's
organization in Mexico's history, the CNMI focuses on women's human rights, reproductive health, violence, and indigenous autonomy. Come hear about new strategies being developed since the passage of the Indian Rights legislation last year that denies the basic guarantee
to indigenous autonomy laid out in the San Andres Accords signed by
the EZLN and the government in 1995.

Speakers include members of the Coordinadora Nacional de Mujeres
Indígenas (CNMI): Nellys Palomo, K'inal Antsetik (Chiapas and Mexico City) & Martha Sanchez, 500 Years of Indigenous Resistance (Guerrero)
