$64,000 question: What is Terrorism

by Skeptical Patriot
Looking for a coherent defenition of patriotism that is not self-serving US propaganda.
I was wondering if any of the supposed war supporters could possibly come up with a defention of terrorism that indicts both Iraq/Saddam Hussein and Usama Bin Laden, that would not also indict the US Government.

It is my contention that it is not possible to come up with such a defenition. This impposibility proves beyond any doubt that the war has nothing to do with terrorism or with the acts on sept. 11. Is this not proof positive?

If this were truley a war against terrorism would Amerikkka and Israel not be the first targets (along with coalition allies Russia and China)?

So, have at, war-lovers. Prove me wrong. Show me a defenition of terrorism that can condemn Saddam and Usama without condemning us just as fervently.

Ball is in your court.

THIS IS NOT NEWS. It is commentary and discussion. No matter how inviting the topic may be, it belongs on a message board - not here on the IMC open-publishing newswire.

So as to discourage further littering of the newswire, please do not pursue this thread.

If this is a news only site, why is there a place for comments?

Discussing a definition of terrorism *clearly* is news right now, given the recent terrorist attacks on Afghanistan and other nations by the US Military, not to mention the attacks on the WTC and Pentagon.

WordNet (Princeton University) defines terrorism as "the systematic use of violence as a means to intimidate or coerce societies or governments." Needless to say the US Military represents the best-armed and most systematic aggressor in modern times.

In defining terrorism as "a mode of government by terror or intimidation," Thomas Jefferson reminds us that terrorism is practised more often by states and militaries than by individuals or small groups.

The American Heritage Dictionary provides the classic American definition: "The unlawful use or threatened use of force or violence by a person or an organized group against people or property with the intention of intimidating or coercing societies or governments, often for ideological or political reasons." Note the focus on property "violence". The US Military, of course, attempts to use lawful means of force when possible; this however involves changing laws to suit its ends, pushing blanket enabling laws through Congress, and subverting the United Nations to gain the force of international law.
