PL Can Begin Logging Headwaters "Hole" 10/23

PL can begin logging THP 520 - the Hole in Headwaters - as early as 10/23/01. The US Fish and Wildlife Service gave the grren light for logging THP 520 within days after PL announced plans to log the marblet murrlet habitat Californians paid to protect as part of the Headwaters "deal".

URGENT FOREST DEFENSE ALERT

USFWS has signed off on the Timber Harvest Plan 520, giving Pacific Lumber the green light to go
in and log as early as tomorrow morning.

All has been peaceful on the Hole in the Headwaters logging for some time, so it comes as a
surprise now that they could go in so soon.

PL filed a timber harvest plan a few years back to log right up to the border of the Headwaters
Preserve, in fact the ancient redwoods in Headwaters surround the logging plan on three sides.

forest defenders are meeting to decide how to respond. I anticipate there will be a basecamp and
a call for help as soon as tomorrow.

I wanted to let you all know asap, in case anyone has time to come up and help.

Especially needed are nonviolence trainers!!! and people who can volunteer to do phone
work--answering and calling. Here we go again...
